{"id":210,"date":"2010-06-30T20:55:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-30T20:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubaltlawcfcc.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/30\/the-families-matter-symposium-working-toward-a-more-therapeutic-family-justice-system"},"modified":"2010-06-30T20:55:00","modified_gmt":"2010-06-30T20:55:00","slug":"the-families-matter-symposium-working-toward-a-more-therapeutic-family-justice-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/cfcc\/2010\/06\/30\/the-families-matter-symposium-working-toward-a-more-therapeutic-family-justice-system\/","title":{"rendered":"The Families Matter Symposium: Working Toward a More Therapeutic Family Justice System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The invitation-only \u201cFamilies Matter\u201d Symposium was held last Thursday and Friday, June 24 and 25, at the University of Baltimore.\u00a0 Co-sponsored by CFCC and the American Bar Association Section of Family Law, the symposium promises to be a powerful catalyst for change.\u00a0 It was exhiliarating to participate in the exchange of groundbreaking ideas that emerge when you put together some of the leading professionals from a range disciplines to discuss how to improve the experience of children and families in the family justice system.\u00a0 More exciting, however, is the fact that this group of high-powered experts is committed to move from theory to action by implementing many of their recommendations for changing the family law system.<\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"color:black\">Maryland\u2019s Chief Judge Robert Bell\u2019s inspiring keynote reminded participants to keep those families who are less fortunate in mind while developing a roadmap for the future, and Georgia\u2019s retired Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears, in her heartfelt concluding address, urged us to focus on the preservation of stable families when possible, even while considering the divorce process.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"float:left;margin-right:1em;text-align:left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align:center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ubaltlawcfcc.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/c889d-dscf2254.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/ubaltlawcfcc.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/c889d-dscf2254.jpg?w=300\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\" style=\"text-align:center\">A small group led by CFCC Senior Fellow Gloria Danziger <br \/>\ndiscusses the availability and use of services for family <br \/>\ncourt litigants.
