I just rigged. Mostly rigged my butt off that is all. I was really miserable and sick so I was not able to do that much and its hard to concentrate on this project. It is really not that easy because of skin weight painting. Skin weights are really difficult and annoying to do so its takes patience for a person to use that tool. The only extra rigs that I am going to make is the ribbon on the bandanna and the whole hair.
What I just learned about this rigging situation:
I am glad that I only rigged the body first!
Why is that because merging the objects together, such as the dress will create problems. Guess it caused Maya to struggling to understand geometry when meshes combine together it will make things uneven. (Trust me I tested it out when I model my characters for my COSC 469 Capstone and it did not work out that well and I guess I have to start these characters over.)
I did the body first (just the body object) and skin it together with the skeleton and rig. After that, I fix the skin weights of the body, then skin the dress (just the dress object) into skeleton and rig, skin weight it, and tested the movements out. I also did the same with the armor. It moved pretty much well accept my characters body part keeps showing through the dress and the armor. I have to find meaning and ways such as spending time highlighting each object faces, extrude the faces, and increasing the Z-axis. I just hope that the thickness is enough for not making the characters body go through clothing.
Later on I will have to go ahead and rig the hair, and try to skin the bandanna and hair into the skeleton and control rig. My idea for a little animation for the class was just my character preparing for punching someone.
It works, for now, but
