Nicole Jansen – Animation Part Four/Integration Part One

Good morning!

I started this week’s work by finalizing the animation on the Maya rig, as I was told to reserve working on the Mixamo rig as part of integration. I did this by cleaning up the weight paint and deleting unnecessary key frames found in the animation. I also submitted an FBX file of the model with the coat rig without any animations attached to it. With the animation assignment completed, I moved onto integration.

In order to properly integrate the model into the Unity project Will provided, I needed to create another rig that would be compatible with Mixamo’s animations as the previous coat rig confused the Mixamo’s program. I did this by auto-rigging the base mesh in Mixamo, downloading that rig, then adjusting the weight paint as needed in Maya. I moved back and forth between Maya and Mixamo in order to ensure proper weight paint distribution.

(The first Mixamo image displays how the gas tank bends to move with the arms, while the second row of images show how it stays in place.)

With this, I have a model that will work with Mixamo’s animations. I plan on working on the integration into Unity as soon as possible and hope that I will have my piece of the final project to give to my group leader by this Wednesday evening.
