Here\u2019s a video of Shilesha\u2019s moving remarks:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eCR0ca5Um8M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>On May 22, the College of Public Affairs hosted its annual Honors Ceremony, an event that celebrates the outstanding scholarly achievements of our students. The ceremony included remarks from Dean Roger Hartley and Provost Darlene Brannigan Smith, honor society inductions, and an awards presentation. The major awards presented were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jami R. Grant Memorial Award<\/strong>, School of Criminal Justice<br \/>\nRecognizes a student for exceptional academic achievement in the undergraduate forensic studies program.<br \/>\n<em>2016-17 recipient: <\/em><strong>Graham Mitchell<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Johannes M. Botes Award<\/strong>, School of Public and International Affairs<br \/>\nRecognizes a graduating student from the M.S. program in Negotiations and Conflict Management (CNCM) or the M.A. program in Global Affairs and Human Security (GAHS) in two ways: (1) for academic excellence in the Capstone Project, the final integrative research project in either program, and (2) for embodying the shared mission and spirit of the programs more broadly.<br \/>\n<em>2016-17 recipient:<\/em> <strong>Bhoja Shrestha<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Dean\u2019s Advisory Council Award<br \/>\n<\/strong>Presented to a graduate and an undergraduate student who have done exceptional work in their classes, conducted research, published papers, completed honors projects, or initiated independent projects which have pushed them beyond the normal classroom.\u00a0 The award carries with it a $1,000 prize.<br \/>\n<em>2016-17 recipients: <\/em><strong>Ashley Hester and Matthew Joseph<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lenneal Henderson Award<br \/>\n<\/strong>Presented to a high-achieving graduate student in the Master\u2019s of Public Administration program.<br \/>\n<em>2016-17 recipient:<\/em> <strong>Matthew Scassero<\/strong>, M.P.A. &#8217;17<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_389\" style=\"width: 2035px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/cpablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/371\/2017\/06\/Matt_Roger_Lenneal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-389\" class=\"wp-image-389 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/cpablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/371\/2017\/06\/Matt_Roger_Lenneal.jpg\" width=\"2025\" height=\"1644\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-389\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matthew Scassero, M.P.A. &#8217;17, Dean Roger Hartley and Distinguished Professor Emeritus Lenneal Henderson<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Students were also inducted into the following honor societies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alpha Phi Sigma (Nu Omicron)<\/strong>, the honor society of the School of Criminal Justice<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pi Alpha Alpha<\/strong>, the honor society of the Doctorate and Master of Public Administration programs<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pi Sigma Alpha<\/strong>, the honor society of the Government and Public Policy program<\/li>\n<li><strong>Upsilon Phi Delta<\/strong>, the honor society of the Health Systems Management programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_390\" style=\"width: 3234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/cpablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/371\/2017\/06\/CPA-award-winners.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-390\" class=\"wp-image-390 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/cpablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/371\/2017\/06\/CPA-award-winners.jpg\" width=\"3224\" height=\"1062\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-390\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pi Alpha Alpha inductees (not all pictured)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A big congratulations to all of the honorees!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you didn\u2019t make it to the spring 2017 graduate commencement ceremony on May 24, then you missed a passionate and inspiring speech delivered by Negotiations and Conflict Management graduate, Shilesha Bamberg, M.S. \u201917.
