A collaboration between the <a href=\"http:\/\/law.ubalt.edu\/faculty\/scotus-mapping\/index.cfm\">SCOTUS Mapping Project<\/a> at the University of Baltimore and <a href=\"https:\/\/free.law\/\">Free Law Project<\/a>, the tool enables anyone to create doctrinal maps similar to those that have been featured on this blog for the past year and a half. Use of the website is 100% free and the entire project is <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/freelawproject\">open-source<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Folks interested in checking out the tool can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/visualizations\/scotus-mapper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">go here<\/a>. We&#8217;ve also put together plenty of resources to help lawyers, law students, professors, and others interested in learning more about this innovative form of legal research. Resources include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A revamped <a href=\"http:\/\/law.ubalt.libguides.com\/content.php?pid=627751&amp;sid=5214001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Libguides library<\/a> of maps that now features <a href=\"http:\/\/law.ubalt.libguides.com\/content.php?pid=627751&amp;sid=5223295\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">embedded networks<\/a> created with the tool.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/free.law\/2016\/02\/22\/our-newest-launch-a-scotus-data-viz-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blog post<\/a> that explains the basic features of the tool via a timely analysis of\u00a0Justice Scalia&#8217;s 4th amendment jurisprudence.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A collection of citation networks for <a href=\"http:\/\/home.ubalt.edu\/id86mp66\/scotusmapper\/Homepage_2014Term.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">every case decided in\u00a0the Court&#8217;s 2014 Term<\/a>. The collection offers an in-depth example of the potential of doctrinal mapping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over the next few weeks, we&#8217;ll examine maps created with the tool and explore what they can teach us about Supreme Court doctrine.
