Koller<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;font-size: 1rem\" href=\"http:\/\/law.ubalt.edu\/faculty\/profiles\/koller.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Prof. Dionne L. Koller<\/b><\/a>, director of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/law.ubalt.edu\/centers\/csl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Sport and the Law<\/a>, has been named co-chair of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commerce.senate.gov\/2021\/4\/chair-cantwell-appoints-members-of-the-commission-on-the-state-of-the-u-s-olympic-and-paralympic-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commission on the State of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee<\/a>\u00a0(also known as the USOPC Commission).<\/p><p>The USOPC Commission is a product of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/senate-bill\/2330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Empowering Olympic, Paralympic, and Amateur Athletes Act<\/a>\u00a0that passed on Nov. 2, 2020. It directs the chairs and ranking members of the Senate Commerce Committee and House Energy and Commerce Committee to each appoint four members to the USOPC Commission. The USOPC Commission must conduct a study reviewing recent USOPC reforms and must submit its findings and recommendations to Congress.<\/p><p>\u201cThe USOPC exists to protect athletes and uphold the integrity of sport,\u201d said Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-WA, commission chair, in announcing the commission on April 2, 2021. \u201cThere are many issues that plague sports, from unequal pay and treatment to sexual abuse. Having the right members on this Commission ensures that these issues can be properly addressed and remedied, so that Olympic and Paralympic athletes can feel safe in their sports environment.\u201d<\/p><p>Koller\u2019s scholarly focus is on Olympic and amateur sports law. She is a former chair and current member of the Executive Board of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aals.org\/sections\/list\/sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Association of American Law Schools\u2019 section on Sports and the Law<\/a>. Koller also serves as a member of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usada.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United States Anti-Doping Agency\u2019s Anti-Doping<\/a>\u00a0Review Board and provides pro bono support for Olympic Movement athletes.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section
