We have to straight up ask them what movies creep them out. The flip-board on the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floor of the library by the staircase seemed like a pretty good way to encourage students to \u2018fess up about what titles frighten them the most. Even better, the library actually carries some of the books and movies students cite as their top scares. Among them:<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: -.25in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: -.25in\">\n<table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"float: left;margin-right: 1em;text-align: left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-dGG11rJUxZM\/Vikbunq3ZHI\/AAAAAAAAAK8\/9WUcHLnYRHE\/s1600\/tumblr_not3z4YHBY1rpxkmvo1_400.gif\" style=\"clear: left;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-dGG11rJUxZM\/Vikbunq3ZHI\/AAAAAAAAAK8\/9WUcHLnYRHE\/s400\/tumblr_not3z4YHBY1rpxkmvo1_400.gif\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\"><i>The Babadook<\/i> will get you if you don&#8217;t watch out.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><i>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/babadook\/oclc\/904257105&amp;referer=brief_resultsscary\" target=\"_blank\">The Babadook<\/a> <\/i>(2014) is a fantastic Australian import about an over-stimulated, hyperactive kid, his stressed-out and overworked single mother, and the terrifying storybook character who springs to life and threatens the lives, safety and sanity of both mother and child. &nbsp;The visual effects in&nbsp;<i>The Babadook<\/i> are low tech and out of this world, and this inventive film leaves a memorable imprint upon the canon of modern horror. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: -.25in\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';font-size: 7pt\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: -.25in\"><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';font-size: 7pt\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><\/span><!--[endif]-->The fantastic thing about horror is that the genre epitomizes cinema as high concept, populist entertainment. <i><a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/drag-me-to-hell\/oclc\/427378379&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\">Drag me to Hell<\/a><\/i> (2009) is a good example of this, with its pulpy, accessible plot: A young bank examiner (underrated actress Alison Lohman) messes with the wrong Roma when the bank she works for forecloses on a geriatric gypsy\u2019s estate. A retaliatory hex, damnation, and chaos ensue. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-indent: -.25in\">\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<p><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';font-size: 7pt\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-b2m-Kb6e3EI\/VikgMwFKyiI\/AAAAAAAAALc\/rKDTdUWRDSE\/s1600\/evil_dead_ii_xlg.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;float: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: 1em\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-b2m-Kb6e3EI\/VikgMwFKyiI\/AAAAAAAAALc\/rKDTdUWRDSE\/s200\/evil_dead_ii_xlg.jpg\" width=\"131\" \/><\/a><i><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';font-size: 7pt\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/evil-dead-2\/oclc\/224304671&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;<\/a><\/span><\/span><!--[endif]--><\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/evil-dead-2\/oclc\/224304671&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Evil dead 2: Dead by Dawn<\/i> <\/a>(1987) is essentially a remake of 1981\u2019s low budget classic <i>Evil Dead<\/i>, with a peppier pace, spiffier special effects, endlessly quotable dialogue and a huge helping of (intentional) slapstick. The entire&nbsp;<i>Evil Dead<\/i> trilogy (which includes 1990\u2019s sublime <i>Army of Darkness<\/i>)&#8211;directed by Sam Raimi\u2014is worth a binge-watch (Raimi also directed the above-mentioned <i>Drag Me to Hell<\/i>.) &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<div>Langsdale patrons also give props to <i>Frankenstein<\/i>, both the <a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/frankenstein-or-the-modern-prometheus\/oclc\/24362028&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\">book <\/a>by Mary Shelley and the classic 1931&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/frankenstein\/oclc\/42206540&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\">film<\/a> directed by James Whale; <i><a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/shutter-island\/oclc\/603829025&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\">Shutter Island<\/a><\/i> (2010) directed by Martin Scorsese; and an early effort by <i>Lord of the Rings<\/i>director Peter Jackson, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/dead-alive\/oclc\/44402297&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\">Dead Alive<\/a> <\/i>(1992).&nbsp;
