2020 celebrates the centennial of the 19th<\/sup> amendment and women\u2019s suffrage in the United States. To commemorate this exciting anniversary, the UB Special Collections & Archives<\/a> is excited to announce a new digital exhibit, The League of Women Voters: The Legacy of Suffrage<\/a>, now available for researchers!<\/p>\n

The new exhibit, curated by Christopher Moore, explores the legacy of the 19th<\/sup> amendment and women\u2019s suffrage through the League of Women Voters of Baltimore City Records<\/a> at the UB Special Collections & Archives. 2020 marks the 100th<\/sup> anniversary of women\u2019s suffrage in the U.S. and the 100th<\/sup> anniversary of the creation of the League of Women Voters.<\/p>\n

The League of Women Voters of Baltimore City<\/a>\u00a0is a local league of the League of Women Voters of the US<\/a>. The LWV is\u00a0a nonpartisan political organization that advocates for citizen participation in government through education and outreach. In addition to their advocacy work and election services, the League provides voters with researched information about government and public policy on the national, state, and local levels.\u00a0Learn more about the League of Women Voters of Baltimore City through their website!<\/a><\/p>\n

The records of the League of Women Voters of Baltimore City document the League\u2019s work, history, and advocacy over the past one hundred years. The Baltimore City League\u2019s records have been stored and maintained by the UB Special Collections & Archives since the 1970s. Over the years, the League has added to their records collection in the archives.<\/p>\n

During the fall semester of 2019 at the Special Collections & Archives, a new accession of materials for the League of Women Voters of Baltimore City Records<\/a> was processed and added to the existing collection at the UB Special Collections & Archives by Laura Bell, processing archivist. During this project, Laura also revised the online\u00a0finding aid<\/a> describing the League records to provide additional description and context for the collection and to make the records more accessible for researchers.<\/p>\n

Simultaneously, Christopher Moore completed his internship curating the digital exhibit<\/a> at the Special Collections & Archives. Christopher is an Anthropology MA student with a concentration in Critical Museum Studies (class of 2020) at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) and a University of Baltimore history department alumnus. During his internship, Christopher extensively researched the League of Women Voters of Baltimore City Records, selected textual and photographic items to include in the exhibit, digitized materials, and developed and built the online digital exhibition.<\/p>\n
