But since October is one of the most lovely months on the calendar, I thought I\u2019d keep it light. You can view the display in the hallway on the 2nd Floor of Learning Commons, but let me post a few images here for your seasonal amusement.<\/span><br \/><span><\/span><br \/><a name='more'><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-RuE3JXa-Mrs\/Wed29kXgQzI\/AAAAAAAAAug\/DkVzutmjoqsyb5uLmg_em4BSMLOUwl7VwCLcBGAs\/s1600\/dance%2Beva%2Banderson%2Bhalloween.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;float: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: 1em\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-RuE3JXa-Mrs\/Wed29kXgQzI\/AAAAAAAAAug\/DkVzutmjoqsyb5uLmg_em4BSMLOUwl7VwCLcBGAs\/s400\/dance%2Beva%2Banderson%2Bhalloween.jpg\" width=\"308\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><span>Did you know the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubalt.edu\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">University of Baltimore<\/a> has an art collection? It does. It&#8217;s actually owned by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubfoundation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Baltimore Foundation<\/a>. The woodblock print above appears to depict an illustration of Edgar Allan Poe&#8217;s poem &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/ubalt.worldcat.org\/title\/raven-the-fall-of-the-house-of-usher-and-other-poems-and-tales\/oclc\/17488561&amp;referer=brief_results\" target=\"_blank\">The Raven<\/a>&#8220;. Can you read the artist&#8217;s signature in the bottom right? I cannot. Anyway, good work, Mystery Artist!<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>One of the department&#8217;s recent acquisitions is the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/library\/2017\/08\/31\/footnotes-eva-andersons-baltimore-dance-theater-collection-comes-to-langsdale\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eva Anderson Baltimore Dance Theater collection<\/a>. These particular images were taken from records that dated from 1950 and 1975, respectively. A. Weaver&#8217;s manuscript for his story <i>Beyond Death<\/i><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div><span>I discovered that Langsdale is the steward to a handful of digitized papers originally belonging to pre-code Hollywood screenwriter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0915875\/\" target=\"_blank\">John V. A. Weaver<\/a>. Weaver was not from Baltimore, and even the <a href=\"https:\/\/archivesspace.ubalt.edu\/repositories\/2\/resources\/122\" target=\"_blank\">collection note<\/a> doesn&#8217;t explain how we procured these items. Weaver&#8217;s papers consist of&#8211;among other things&#8211; a typewritten play, a signed poem written on Paramount Studios stationery (perhaps written to his wife <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0939931\/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1\" target=\"_blank\">Peggy Wood<\/a>, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Reverend Mother in <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0059742\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\">The Sound of Music<\/a><\/i>), a treatment for a screenplay, and a story called <i><a href=\"https:\/\/archivesspace.ubalt.edu\/repositories\/2\/archival_objects\/16261\" target=\"_blank\">Beyond Death<\/a><\/i> (see photo). You can see from Weaver&#8217;s notes that he was having trouble making up his mind what to call it&#8211; alternate titles included &#8220;The Living Dead&#8221;, &#8220;Dead or Alive&#8221;, and &#8220;Officially Dead&#8221;.
