The students have been working collaboratively for two months on woodworking, painting, critique, curation, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and exhibition design with teachers Jon Brickous and Jewel Young, Baltimore-based artist Gary Mullen, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Blackives, LLC staff. Proceeds from the auction will fund an art scholarship in honor of Tom Miller for the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">participants.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>Place an <a href=\"https:\/\/app.galabid.com\/tommillerweek\/items\">online bid<\/a> to own one of these unique creations. He created colorful, whimsical, and humorous<br \/>screen-prints, murals, and sculptures from discarded furniture he found around Baltimore City. \u201cTom Miller Day\u201d was<br \/>declared by Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke in 1995 after the artist became one of the first African-Americans fromthe city to receive a solo exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art. While Miller&#8217;s whimsical charm is evident in murals, museums, and private collections throughout the city, the second event commemorating his legacy was not organized until 2021 when Blackives, LLC revived and extended the day by presenting Tom Miller Week.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4529\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1022\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-1-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"519\" height=\"667\" \/><\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The exhibition will last two weeks and include a silent auction, an exhibition, and a reception.
