In public and school libraries around the world, many books are challenged, banned or censored \u2013 460 challenges were reported to Office of Intellectual Freedom in 2009. Most challenges are due to sexually explicit material, offensive language and violence. <span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re sponsoring the Banned Book Reading at <b>Barnes &amp; Noble bookstore caf\u00e9<\/b> on <b>Tuesday, September 28<sup>th<\/sup> from 11am-2pm<\/b>. UB faculty and staff will be reading and discussing some of the most controversial books in America:<\/p>\n<p><i>Huckleberry Finn <\/i>by Mark Twain<\/p>\n<p><i>Catcher in the Rye <\/i>by J.D. Salinger<\/p>\n<p><i>One Flew over the Cuckoo\u2019s Nest<\/i> by Ken Kesey<\/p>\n<p><i>Cat\u2019s Cradle<\/i> by Kurt Vonnegut<\/p>\n<p><i>Brave New World<\/i> by Aldous Huxley<\/p>\n<p><i>To Kill a Mocking Bird<\/i> by Harper Lee<\/p>\n<p><i>Grapes of Wrath<\/i> by John Steinbeck<\/p>\n<p><i>Their Eyes Were Watching God<\/i> by Zora Neale Hurston<\/p>\n<p><i>1984<\/i> by George Orwell<\/p>\n<p><i>Howl and Other Poems<\/i> by Allen Ginsberg<\/p>\n<p><i>Tropic of Cancer<\/i> by Henry Miller<\/p>\n<p>Langsdale Library has these banned books and more \u2013 stop by to check a few out and celebrate Banned Books Week with us!
