You can browse by category (education, health, law enforcement, etc.) or by agency (Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Transportation Statistics, etc.) . The advanced search adds a file format option.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/langsdale.ubalt.edu\/news\/uploaded_images\/datagov-742106.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px;text-align: center;cursor: pointer;width: 400px;height: 265px\" src=\"http:\/\/langsdale.ubalt.edu\/news\/uploaded_images\/datagov-742102.JPG\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>Data can be retrieved using pre-existing tools (e.g., <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Web_widget\">widgets<\/a> that you can insert into your website, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/Widgets\/\">these from the CDC<\/a>), or it can be downloaded &#8220;raw&#8221;in a variety of machine-readable, platform-independent formats:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/XML\">XML<\/a> (for the Web)<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/XML\"><br \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Comma-separated_values\">CSV<\/a>\/Text (MS Excel, Open Office Calc, iWork Numbers, etc.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/apis\/kml\/documentation\/kml_tut.html\">KML\/KMZ<\/a> (Google Earth)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/\">ESRI<\/a> (ArcGIS software)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The datasets are free, but be sure to read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.data.gov\/datapolicy\">Data Policy<\/a> first; it contains information on what datasets can or cannot contain, as well as information on how to cite any data you use.<\/p>\n<p>Got a cool project that uses government datasets?
