The committee has finished its work, and yesterday (2\/<\/span>15<span style=\"font-size:100%\">) they released their report, entitled <\/span><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpoaccess.gov\/katrinareport\/mainreport.pdf\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">A Failure of Initiative: The Final Report of      the Select <\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Bipartisan Committee to Investigate the Preparation for and Response to Hurricane Katrina<\/span><\/a> (PDF).<\/p>\n<p>From the report&#8217;s preface:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Our investigation revealed that Katrina was a national failure, an abdication of the most solemn obligation to provide for the common welfare. At every level &#8211; individual, corporate, philanthropic, and governmental &#8211; we failed to meet the challenge that was Katrina.
