Midterm Check-up

In the next few days you are going to be informed about your “status”. Not your Facebook status and not who is following you on Twitter. It’s more like your (…gulp!) academic status – or it could me more like, (Yay!) My Academic Status! Let’s be positive.

Mid-term grades will be posted in your MyUB portal beginning Monday, October 14th.

In an effort to support student success, UB has created a midterm reporting program whereby you will receive either an “S” (satisfactory progress), “NS” (Non-satisfactory progress), or an “FA” (failure due to absence). All University of Baltimore faculty have been instructed to make you aware of this policy change in their syllabi beginning this semester (fall 2013).

Staying with the positive theme; be diligent, be conscientious and be honest, with your instructor and yourself. The mid-term grade report should be looked at like a doctor’s check-up, a 12 point inspection, or a visit with your MSB academic adviser on occasion to review your progress (Mmmm). The mid-term report, hopefully gives you the thumbs up you need for the rest of the semester – Just 7 more weeks!

Some of you may need to step back and take good stock of your situation whether or not it is in your best interest to press on or “retreat”. But don’t give up for the sake of giving up – I mean retreating. Discuss your options with your academic adviser before you make any decisions. There may be other avenues you have not considered that your adviser can help you explore. That’s why we are here. The MSB Academic Advisers are located in the Advising Office BC 142.

Once your instructor has approved the entire grade roster for your class, the mid-term grade tab will appear under the grades section of your MyUB for fall 2013. See a sample screen shot here:

Thursday, October 31st is the last day to withdraw from a course, so schedule your appointment with your adviser with enough time to make an informed decision. More information is on the way from the Dean’s office regarding the mid-term report.

Stay positive.
