UB History graduate Michael Guy (B.A. ’13) has completed his master’s degree in Museum Studies at Morgan State University, and has been accepted to the doctoral program in history at George Washington University in D.C.
Guy’s master’s thesis, “Reclaiming the Past: How a Legacy of Paternalism Affects Modern Efforts of Artifact Repatriation” (2019), analyzes the problem of African artifacts in European museums. Works of art and ceremonial pieces, like the famous Benin Bronzes, were looted by British soldiers during imperialist campaigns.
