New Phi Alpha Theta Members Celebrate at this Spring’s Ceremony

On May 2, undergraduate students Kelsey Scanlon, Ann Zelenka, Christopher Finke, and Marshall Odell gathered in the Learning Commons lounge to undergo their induction into Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honors society.  Presided over by UB History Club faculty sponsor Nicole Hudgins, each of the students celebrated their achievement and received the certificate of their lifetime membership.  LEHS chair Dr. Fred Guy, faculty members Betsy Nix and Boram Yi, and a few family members joined them.  Dr. Hudgins addressed the group by reminding new members to embrace the joy of history and the humanities.  Congratulations, history and jurisprudence students!

UB Students Visit the Baltimore Council of Foreign Affairs

In April 2014, UB students attended the 14th annual Foreign Relations Policy Conference for Maryland College Faculty and Students, hosted by the Baltimore Council of Foreign Affairs.  It was a great opportunity for students who wanted to pursue a career in foreign sevices.  Officers from the State Department gave presentations followed by a Q&A session.  More importantly, discussed career opportunities at the State Department.

Ann Zelenka Presents Research at the Mid-Atlantic Phi Alpha Theta Conference at George Washington University

UB undergraduate student Ann Zelenka delivered her research paper, “An Analysis of the Catholic Church’s Response to the Events of the Holocaust” as part of a three-person panel on Religious History at the conference.  The March 29 event hosted hundreds of undergraduate students, graduates, faculty members, family, and friends from all over Maryland.
