McCusker, UB History grad of 2011, is now Managing Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irishshrine.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Irish Railroad Workers Museum<\/a> in Baltimore.\u00a0 The\u00a0museum is situated\u00a0within a group of 5 alley houses where the Irish immigrants who worked for the adjoining B&amp;O Railroad lived. Two of the houses, 918 and 920 Lemmon St., are the museum.\u00a0 A significant Irish presence established itself in Southwest Baltimore during and following\u00a0the\u00a0Irish\u00a0Potato Famine\u00a0of the 1840s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/nhudgins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/207\/2015\/04\/Luke-McCusker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-249\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/nhudgins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/207\/2015\/04\/Luke-McCusker.jpg\" alt=\"Luke McCusker\" width=\"240\" height=\"206\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under the direction of the museum&#8217;s board of directors, McCusker interprets an Irish immigrant home of the 1870s, and develops the family&#8217;s story for presentation to visitors.\u00a0 He says that the history major helped him develop critical thinking and &#8220;a heart for research and the ability to communicate my findings&#8221; clearly and concisely.\u00a0 When asked what advice he has for new history graduates, McCusker says that becoming &#8220;as comfortable with technology as you can&#8221; will give you an edge.\u00a0\u00a0The UB\u00a0history faculty agrees that public history has become closely linked to digital history.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-250\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubalt.edu\/nhudgins\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/207\/2015\/04\/Doyle_1868.jpg\" alt=\"Doyle_1868\" width=\"238\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mw-mmv-title\"><i>Emigrants Leave Ireland<\/i>, engraving by Henry Doyle (1827\u20131893), from Mary Frances Cusack&#8217;s <i>Illustrated History of Ireland<\/i>, 1868.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr. Luke F.
