Good Fortune<\/span><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

My fortune cookie hides a prophecy<\/span><\/p>\n

deep in its eggy, glucose-coated gut.<\/span><\/p>\n

It says that I will prosper if I just<\/span><\/p>\n

work harder, as if hard work were a key<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

to fling doors open left and right. My life<\/span><\/p>\n

has oozed and drizzled elbow grease, though now<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel the urge to run and tell my wife<\/span><\/p>\n

that I\u2019ll work harder still to tow my load.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

She\u2019ll roll her eyes, I know. That\u2019s what she does<\/span><\/p>\n

whenever I\u2019ve a bright idea to share.<\/span><\/p>\n

The kitchen drawers are full. I hide them there<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

so when I pull a knife out, feel the chill<\/span><\/p>\n

steel blade against my skin\u2014that ancient thrill\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

some age-old wisdom cures me of my blues.<\/span><\/p>\n
