Your roar left its mark,<\/span><\/p>\n

intended, I\u2019m sure. Callous<\/span><\/p>\n

choice, assaulting peace,<\/span><\/p>\n

killing transcendent, quiet<\/span><\/p>\n

talk. Ego zooming beyond<\/span><\/p>\n

decent boundaries.<\/span><\/p>\n

What pat on the back were you<\/span><\/p>\n

starved for as a kid<\/span><\/p>\n

that propels this screeching need<\/span><\/p>\n

to announce yourself, to pierce<\/span><\/p>\n

equanimity<\/span><\/p>\n

with vulgar speed and racket?<\/span><\/p>\n

You think you\u2019re hot, blasting down<\/span><\/p>\n

Reed Market Road, risking all<\/span><\/p>\n

in your souped-up, sleek chassis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have a clue<\/span><\/p>\n

how naked you are? When next<\/span><\/p>\n

you hit the floorboard, think what\u2019s<\/span><\/p>\n

grandly broadcast with <\/span>VAROOM<\/span><\/i>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

a child\u2019s display of smallness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Carol Barrett has published three volumes of poetry, most recently READING WIND, and one of creative nonfiction, PANSIES. An NEA Fellow in Poetry, Carol has lived in nine states and in England. She has taught creative writing to students ranging from kindergarten to doctoral studies, and currently supervises creative dissertations at Antioch University and Saybrook University.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Vanessa Aiello is a photographer and writer from Springfield, Massachusetts. Vanessa Aiello was recently named the Intercollegiate Poet of Regis College and published in MassPoetry\u2019s Future in Verse<\/em>. She was also published in ArtWife and CoolBeansLit for her photography. She recently graduated from Regis College in May of 2024 with a B.A in Secondary Education and English and a minor in Writing.
