Examples of engagement and impact of this theme beyond faculty research:

  • Engaged with over 100 community groups, community banks, and businesses through the Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance, aiding those communities to set improvement goals for Baltimore neighborhoods using open data and 150 quality of life indicators for Baltimore City’s 55 Community Statistical Areas.
  • Developed a program for students and alumni interested in real estate to launch local real estate development projects that will have significant impact on these neighborhoods, in partnership with Baltimore Community Lending and M&T Bank. The initial project developed over $2 million in investments for three under-served communities:  Cherry Hill, Upton, and Forest Park.
  • Impacted economic and workforce development in Baltimore through the Jacob France Institute, with over 20 projects, including consulting on development of Port Covington; Amazon’s HQ2; and the efficacy of workforce development programs for the Weinberg Foundation.
