Generative AI Product Tracker from Ithaka S+R
As mentioned in previous posts, the University of Baltimore proudly joined 18 other universities in the pioneering “Making AI Generative in Higher Education” project, spearheaded by Ithaka S+R. This initiative represents our shared dedication to leveraging generative AI technologies for the betterment of educational practices, research, and student engagement. Highlighting the latest advancement in this collaborative effort is the Generative AI Product Tracker. This invaluable tool emerges as a testament to our collective exploration and adaptation, offering educators, researchers, and technologists a comprehensive overview of AI applications that are reshaping higher education.

UMBC AI, Privacy and Ethics Symposium
Our peers at UMBC have invited the UBalt community to their symposium titled “AI, Privacy, and Ethics – Oh, My! Unpacking the Questions Surrounding Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education.” With the landscape of artificial intelligence and privacy in higher education constantly changing, the UMBC Library has organized an online series to highlight voices with different perspectives and who are working directly on the frontlines with this evolving technology.
- April 1: “After 75 Years of AI, Can Machines Think?” with Tim Finlin
- April 8: “The Librarian is In: Q&A with Ray Pun on All Things AI”
- April 15: “The GPT Dilemma: Navigating the Pros, Cons, and Impacts on Learning” with Karen Chen.
- April 22: “Looking Out for Your Data Privacy” with Amy Swackhamer.
- April 29: “ChatGPT and AI in Research, Education, and the Classroom” with Rachael Kang.

USM Incorporating Generative AI into Learning Experiences Virtual Showcase
The Incorporating Generative AI into Learning Experiences virtual showcase will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The event will take place online via Zoom.
General registration has been re-opened with limited additional spots. We expect these spots to fill very quickly, so the program organizers encourage USM faculty and staff to register as soon as possible.
The showcase will highlight how faculty, staff, and faculty/staff/student teams from across Maryland higher education have engaged in the use of Generative AI as part of assignments and learning activities. How are we engaging students in the creation of authentic work while using Generative AI? What are critical ethical issues associated with the use of Generative AI in teaching? How might we foster career-ready skills associated with Generative AI as a part of students’ learning experiences? We have several UBalt colleagues presenting in this showcase!
Dr. James Lang will launch the showcase as the keynote speaker, building from insights found in his 2013 book, Cheating Lessons: Learning from Academic Dishonesty, to discuss academic integrity in the era of generative AI. More information about Dr. Lang can be found here.
Note: The showcase is intended for colleagues from across Maryland higher education institutions, and with that focus, we have limited registrations to individuals affiliated with Maryland colleges and universities.
