Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week at UBalt
Across the country, Teacher Appreciation Week is a time to recognize the extraordinary impact of educators. At UBalt, it’s no different. Faculty here go far beyond delivering course content. They mentor, innovate, support, and adapt in ways that deeply shape students’ academic and personal success. As the semester winds down, this week offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the many ways teaching excellence shows up at UBalt.
One important example is the work of our inaugural Teaching Scholars in Residence (TSiR) cohort. Over the past year and a half, Megan Rhee, Liz Keyes, Sunny Sanwar, and Shelly Clay-Robison have explored timely and essential questions about how students learn. Their research highlights how the scholarship of teaching and learning can lead to meaningful improvements in course design and student engagement. They’ve not only deepened their own teaching practices, but they’ve also contributed knowledge that benefits the entire UBalt community.
We’ll also be announcing the recipients of this year’s Student-Nominated Teaching Awards, which recognize faculty who go above and beyond to support student learning. Categories include Student Support, Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environments, Teaching Innovation, and the overall Student Choice Excellence in Teaching Award. These awards are especially meaningful because they come directly from the voices of our students, those most impacted by the work our faculty do every day.
We invite you to join us this Friday at the Thank A Teacher Celebration as we honor the TSiRs, announce this year’s award winners, and reflect on a year of thoughtful, inspired, and impactful teaching. In a time of continued change and challenge in higher education, this is our opportunity to pause and recognize the faculty who make UBalt a place where teaching truly matters.
