Prioritizing Mental Health at UBalt
As part of UBalt’s commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment, the Office of Student Support is offering Mental Health First Aid Training for faculty and staff on October 18 and October 25. This training is designed specifically for the higher education context, equipping participants with the skills to recognize and respond to signs of mental health distress in students, colleagues, and bystanders.
Mental health is an essential component of well-being, and this training provides a proactive way to foster a more compassionate campus. Participants will engage in a two-hour self-paced online tutorial, followed by an instructor-led training that provides 5.5 hours of instructional material with ample breaks to ensure a balanced learning experience.
This initiative comes at an important time, as we also observe Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 6-12) and World Mental Health Day on October 10. These national events, led by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), emphasize the importance of mental health education, awareness, and support. Taking part in UBalt’s Mental Health First Aid Training is one way our community can respond to this call to action, helping to create a campus where everyone feels seen, supported, and understood.
