Introducing the Teaching Scholars in Residence (TSiR) Program

Imagine stepping into a classroom of the future at the University of Baltimore. Interactive technologies seamlessly integrate with student-driven learning. Collaborative spaces buzz with the exchange of ideas, not just among students but between disciplines. Innovative teaching methods are not the exception but the norm. This is the transformative vision that CELTT seeks to realize.

But how do we bridge the gap between the familiar lecture halls of today and the vibrant, collaborative learning spaces of tomorrow? This question lies at the heart of our new initiative, presenting a compelling challenge and an exciting opportunity.

The Teaching Scholars in Residence (TSiR) program is more than a response to evolving educational needs; it’s a bold step toward a future where teaching and learning are dynamically intertwined. The inaugural cross-disciplinary scholars, Mike Kiel (RLB), Megan Rhee (CAS), Sunny Sanwar (MSB), Liz Keyes (LAW), and Shelly Clay-Robison (CPA), will not only bring cutting-edge teaching practices and innovative research into our classrooms but will also actively contribute to the CELTT advisory board, driving the development of a culture of teaching excellence.

This vision is ambitious yet grounded in practical steps. Our Scholars in Residence will work to integrate advanced teaching methodologies into everyday practice, transforming theoretical concepts into tangible teaching strategies through the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research. This program will lead and support the Teaching Scholars, from conceptualization to dissemination, enhancing the university’s research profile in teaching and learning. This includes securing research grants, presenting at SoTL forums, and publishing their findings, thereby impacting teaching practices and student learning outcomes university-wide.

The Scholars will also serve as mentors and leaders, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and knowledge sharing. They will partner with faculty to create new programs and initiatives that bring value to the faculty and increase student success, facilitating workshops and discussions that cross departmental boundaries, enriching the overall teaching and learning environment at the university.

The TSiR program is a commitment to the future of education and to the enduring impact we can have on the next generation of scholars and educators. In the coming weeks, stay tuned to our blog as we showcase each of our participants and their unique goals for the TSiR program. These future posts will offer deeper insights into the individual journeys and aspirations of our esteemed colleagues, further illustrating the diverse and innovative spirit that drives our community. Join us in this exciting venture as we explore, learn, and grow together.
