A Focus on AAPI Heritage and Mental Health Awareness

This May, our DEIB Corner highlights two key areas of focus: Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and National Mental Health Month. Each topic not only provides a window into the experiences of our community members but also calls for action and awareness in specific, impactful ways.

  • Celebrate and learn about the vast contributions of AAPI communities in our society. A recent article from NYU News highlights innovative educational programs that support AAPI students by addressing their unique cultural needs and promoting their academic success. Additionally, the Microsoft Education Blog offers resources for educators on how to integrate AAPI history and culture into their classrooms to enrich students’ learning experiences.
  • Mental health is a critical component of our overall well-being, yet it often goes overlooked, especially in academic settings. Faculty Focus offers an in-depth look at how institutions can support the mental health of faculty and staff, providing a framework for creating a healthier workplace. Meanwhile, NAMI’s article on high-functioning depression brings attention to the invisible struggles many face, advocating for greater awareness and support mechanisms within our community.

These resources offer meaningful insights into the struggles and triumphs of distinct groups within our community, underscoring the importance of inclusion and awareness in fostering a supportive academic environment.
