Making Time for Community

Creating a vibrant and engaging teaching and learning environment requires more than just academic rigor. It relies on a sense of community, where faculty, staff, and students come together to support and learn from one another. At UBalt, building this community means being intentional — taking the time to connect with each other both inside and outside the classroom. As educators, our participation in campus life is integral to cultivating a dynamic learning culture, and this November, a variety of events provide opportunities to do just that.

This month, UBalt is hosting events that celebrate our diverse campus and emphasize the values of service, cultural awareness, and personal growth. We’ll honor the experiences of our veterans through storytelling and meaningful discussions that shed light on the challenges and triumphs of military service. Cultural celebrations invite us to learn about global traditions and customs, fostering respect and appreciation for the richness of our community. Workshops and sessions focused on resilience and strengths-based development offer insights into how we can harness our individual and collective abilities to better support one another.

As we reflect on our role in this shared community, let’s consider how our engagement can make a difference. Attending these events and connecting with peers, staff, and students through shared experiences is an active way to foster belonging and collaboration. Even in a hybrid campus setting, our presence, whether in person or thoughtfully engaged from afar, helps create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.
