Fall 2025 Call for Submissions
Open September 9–30
or until cap of 150 submissions per genre is reached
The University of Baltimore celebrates its hundredth anniversary in 2025. Consequently, the Welter team is thinking about time this year. For our Fall 2025 Digital Lit issue, we are seeking submissions that respond to the theme Before / After.
For poetry submissions: send 1–3 poems, totaling no more than 3 pages. Please use page breaks between poems. Submissions will be capped at 150 entries.
For fiction and creative nonfiction submissions: send only 1 piece, up to 2000 words. Please double-space your work. Submissions will be capped at 150 entries.
For all written submissions: Please submit in .pdf or .docx format and use a standard, legible font (i.e. Times New Roman, Garamond, etc.). All work should be previously unpublished, including on social media sites. We do not accept work that has been generated by AI in any way. Finally, we read anonymously; please do not include any identifying information in your submission document or file name.
For visual art submissions: send up to 5 artworks in .jpeg format. Submissions will be capped at 150 entries. We are unfortunately unable to consider time-based media for this call. Work should be previously unpublished in a literary journal, but may have appeared before on the artist’s website or social media. We do not accept work that has been generated by AI in any way. We read anonymously; do not include any identifying information in your submission or file name.
Welter publishes twice a year: a print journal in the spring and an online issue in the fall.
