Books for the Beach or Backyard
Need a break from studying or want a book to take to the beach? Check out Langsdale Library’s Leisure Reading collection on the first floor of the library. These are just a few of the titles that are available:
Drifting : two weeks on the Hudson
A trip down the Hudson River with an introspective and humorous look at the river and Recession-Era America
When the author heard of the mysterious loss of thousands of bath toys at sea, he figured he would interview a few oceanographers, talk to a few beachcombers, and read up on Arctic science and geography. But questions can be like ocean currents: wade in too far, and they carry you away.
These summaries are from WorldCat. Read more by searching Langsdale’s collections or just come in and check out the books yourself. For the summer school session, the library is open until 9 PM Monday through Thursday and until 6 PM on Fridays. We’ll also be open Saturdays 1 PM to 5 PM.
For some dirt on the Orioles, check out page 196 of the baseball book. Apparently, stadium groundskeepers have a history of helping the home team win, in many ways that are legal and some that are not.
Also look at page 238 to find out some funny and sometimes touching stories about the baseball kangaroo courts. The Orioles played a part in those, too.
