A game about redlining

This month, RLB Library is highlighting our video and board game collection in the first floor exhibit area. One of the board games that is near and dear to our hearts is called Urban Cipher, a game developed by Dr. Lawrence Brown to spur discussion about the impact of redlining. Dr. Brown spent several months working with materials in the RLB Special Collections while conducting research for his book The Black Butterfly, which is also the inspiration for the Urban Cipher board game. If you would like to hear more about how the game works, you can listen to an NPR Marketplace segment on Urban Cipher.  Or you can check out the copy of Urban Cipher in the RLB Library’s game collection and try it yourself.
