A ‘Genius’ Among Us


Baltimore-born author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates was one of the 2015 recipients of the MacArthur Fellows ProgramGenius Grant.” This grant selects a handful of recipients each year to receive $625,000 over a five year period with no strings attached. Imagine, over half a million dollars to pursue your creative endeavors!

Coates is an advocate for social justice and uses personal experience and history to explore issues surrounding culture, poverty, and race. See an interview with Coates here.
